There are multiple ways to pay bribes; one of them is also to pay a bureaucrat’s daughter’s marriage bills. An in-depth investigation carried out by The News Minute (TNM) revealed Telangana Special Chief Secretary Rajat Kumar’s daughter, Anjali Kumar’s marriage expenses were billed to a company called BigWave Infra Private Limited. This company appeared to be a shell company with connections to employees of the Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL).
Rajat Kumar headed the Irrigation and Command Area Development Development which monitors the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. MEIL is already under the scanner for making this project as the country’s most expensive irrigation project. The cost of the project is a whopping Rs 1.15 lakh crore.

MEIL signed a contract of Rs 50 lakh with the hotels accessed by TNM. The hotels invoices were raised in the name of two companies – Interactive Data Systems and BigWave Infra Private Limited. The directors of Interactive Data Systems are also on the boards of various MEIL companies. But most of the payments were made by BigWave Infra Private Limited.
Rajat Kumar’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Prabhakar Rao coordinated with the MEIL executives for making all the marriage arrangements.
Who are the owners of the two companies linked to MEIL?
BigWave Infra Private Limited was incorporated in June 2021, just a few months before the wedding that took place in December 2021. The directors of the company are listed as Sandhya Agarwal and Anusha. The company is registered as a ‘building installation’ firm. The company’s registered address is Bahadurpura in Hyderabad’s old city, it’s a residential building.
MEIL in response to TNM said that the companies mentioned in the article are not related to them. ‘MEIL is not responsible for the transactions that were flagged to us by your good self. We, as a company, are also not aware of any such transaction happening nor were we a party to any such thing. If anybody does an activity in his/her personal capacity, the same cannot be attributed to any company,’ said MEIL’s response.
Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy stated was it a ‘quid pro quo’ between MEIL and the Chief Secretary.
BSP state co-ordinator RS Praveen Kumar stated KCR government’s integrity will be questionable if no action is taken against Rajat Kumar.
